Mazda Motor Corporation (MMC) introduced the RX-8 SPIRIT R. This version is a special edition, the RX four-door, four-seat rotary-engined. Sales plan begins 24 November 2011 at all Mazda and Mazda Anfini dealers in Japan.
Explained, this special edition is the last production of the Mazda RX-8 which will be discontinued at the end of June 2012. Mazda hopes to sell about 1,000 units of this edition.

Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 157-horsepower engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on the Sport, and a 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional. A 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on the Grand Touring.
